Abstract

Portable smart devices have become popular in recent years. These devices also produce a large number of data. In wireless environment, it is important for portable devices to keep reliability of data transmission. While it is difficult to keep portable devices stable in a wireless environment. Instability of wireless path may cause unreachability between the server and devices. In this state, some real-time services may become unavailable for portable devices. In order to overcome the problem, we design a novel fault tolerating system for portable smart devices to keep reliability in wireless environment. The system architecture allows applications in portable smart devices use multiple connections to access the server simultaneously. One protocol runs for applications in portable smart devices to adapt to different network states. This protocol allows applications choose a suitable method to transfer data. In the experiment, data transmission in our system is stable that application can keep data transmission without stopping when wireless path is unstable.
