Abstract

Abstract A FORTRAN programme is described which finds the best match between two sets of atomic coordinates, for example, two sections of α-carbon backbones of two proteins. The algorithm of this programme is based on the following idea: the objective function is expressed in terms of three rotation angles; the expression is simplified by adjusting the position of one of the two sets so as to find the least value of the objective function.
