Abstract

Abstract A fast, non-ferric kicker has been designed, built and installed in the muon (g−2) experiment at the Brookhaven Alternating Gradient Synchrotron. A current pulse of 4200 A peak, and base-width of 400 ns , is passed in opposite directions through parallel plates 10 cm apart on either side of the muon storage region in the (g−2) storage ring. A field integral of 0.1 Tm was achieved, which kicks the 3.09 GeV /c muon beam by about 10 mrad . This kick is achieved by employing three identical 1.76 m long sections, each powered by a separate pulse-forming network. The design and performance of the kicker is presented.
