Abstract
This paper presents an efficient and fast mode decision for intra depth coding in 3DVC. In 3D video system, 3D scenes are rendered by the existing texture video and the added depth map. By adding depth map to 3D video data, 3D devices such as TV, monitors and mobile phones can provide the 3D effect. However, the computational complexity of 3D video system is drastically increased because of that. In this paper, we propose a fast algorithm to decide prediction mode for the computational complexity reduction in the intra prediction of depth map coding. The proposed algorithm uses the correlation between texture video and depth map coding. Due to the intra prediction mode of the depth map is similar to the corresponding texture video, we early decide the depth intra mode by using the coded texture intra mode. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm saved on the average 22.7% encoding time without any significant bitrate or PSNR losses.
