Certain interrelations between the discrete short-time spectrum and the DFT apply also in the case of frequency-dependent resolution. From such an interrelation it is deduced that spectral analysis (and also analysis-synthesis) can be efficiently performed using a modified version of a familiar fast convolution procedure.
