Abstract

This paper considers placing area labels on a map such as labels for cities, prefectures, and lakes. We propose a real-time method to determine label positions using the intersections of the auxiliary and boundary lines of a given area. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is capable of real-time processing and can determine effective label positions.
