Abstract

The design and performance of an automatic temperature controller is described. The controller provides rapid heating and a fast approach to equilibrium followed by high stability of equilibrium conditions. The system has a flexible performance and can provide proportional heating for temperature errors near to the equilibrium position, and full output power is available for an error of only 005 K. The system has low off-power making it suitable for use at the lowest temperatures. A temperature stability of 001 K or better can be obtained over most of the range 42-300 K.
