Abstract
An electrical detection spark source mass spectrometer has been developed which is faster, and which has lower elemental detection limits, than a photoplate detection instrument. The system is described, and the required sample analysis time is compared to that of a photoplate detector. Detection limits are given for 17 elements in the iron matrix. Many elements are detectable to less than 0.1 p.p.b. in this matrix.
