Abstract

The aim of this article is to identify the most significant steps in the evolution of Latin epic poetry by commenting the critique, and demonstrate Lucan’s contribution by pointing out the innovative elements of his Bellum Ciuile or Pharsalia as a reaction to the conceptual models of the classical epic genre and especially as a counterpoint to Aeneid.
