Abstract

Millions of people are working for a living but not earning enough to raise their families. The value of the minimum wage continues to erode. It is in no one’s interest for people to work full-time and still remain in poverty. The minimum wage needs to be raised to at least the level it was in the 1960s and 1970s. Unlike social security and other anti-poverty programs, the minimum wage is not indexed for inflation and literally takes an act of congress to raise it. The minimum wage needs to be raised to a fair level and indexed to inflation.
