Abstract

A green and low temperature solvothermal synthesis of Cu2ZnSnS4(CZTS) quantum dots (QDs) from metal chloride salts in absolute ethanol-distil water mixed solvent is reported. Structural, Raman and photoluminescence (PL) analysis reveal kesterite phase of CZTS QDs. The morphological analysis has been done by FESEM, TEM and HRTEM. The average CZTS nanoparticle size is in the range of ∼ 1–3 nm equivalents to exciton Bohr radius of CZTS confirming the formation of QDs. The optical absorption spectra of CZTS QDs show a blue shift to higher energy and the optical band gap is estimated to be 1.89eV (larger than bulk CZTS ∼ 1.5–1.6eV) due to quantum confinement making deserving for solar cells applications.
