Abstract

1,2,4-Aminonaphthol sulfonic acid (H) shows strong fluorimetric properties which can be utilized for recognition behavior of cation identification. Sensor (H) has selective complexing ability towards Cu2+ ions in presence of other metal ions in aqueous medium. Study of Stern-Volmer plot confirmed static as well as dynamic quenching mechanisms. The Job's plot exhibited stoichiometric ratio between metal ions and receptor as 1:1. Benesi Hildebrand equation was used to calculate association constant Ka (1.43 × 103 M-1) for Cu2+ ions. Fluorescence study revealed that the sensor (H) is capable to detect Cu2+ ions efficiently in aqueous medium without the bar of maintaining pH of the solution.
