Abstract

A Fabry-Perot leaky-wave antenna (LWA) with beam scanning capabilities is presented. This design utilises a high impedance surface (HIS) as the first layer, a partially reflective surface (PRS) as the second layer and a plain dielectric slab as the third layer. The scanning of the antenna beam is accomplished by adjusting the operating frequencies within the 60 GHz range (58–67 GHz). This simple configuration generates a pencil beam with an S11 bandwidth (BW) of 9GHz, a scan range of 30° in the H-plane and a maximum gain of 24 dBi at 62.5 GHz.
