Abstract
The article proposes to present Vidal de La Blach's geographical contribution – particularly with regard to division and description of space – and, after this, the aims is to examine his influence on two important fields of French historiography in the last century: Fernand Braudel's Geohistory and Local History represented by Pierre Goubert. In the final moment, we take the criticism undertaken by the geographer Yves Lacoste as an example of the later critical revision of the lablachian way of dividing space
