Abstract

A dynamic model that successfully predicted effluent concentrations of several priority pollutants has been developed. The aeration and clarifier tanks were modeled, and the model was verified with data collected from a large industrial wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The WWTP uses powdered activated carbon in combination with activated sludge in the aeration tanks (PACT process). A dynamic model was needed because the influent concentrations varied with time, and steady‐state models could not adequately predict effluent concentrations.
