Abstract

A dummy load transducer with an electrical termination was used to test the performance of a sonar transducer in air. The dummy load transducer was mechanically attached to the sonar transducer and loaded with the same mechanical impedance which would be loaded underwater. The mechanical impedance was calculated using a 4-port equivalent circuit of the dummy transducer and adjusted by changing the electrical termination. Transmitting sensitivity and other characteristics were successfully measured with this dummy load in the frequency range from 6.5 kHz to 7.5 kHz.
