Abstract
An organic dual-wavelength surface-emitting distributed feedback (DFB) laser based on a waveguide configuration containing a holographic photo-curable polymer/liquid crystal (LC) periodic structure and two laser gain media is reported for the first time. In such a laser configuration, a laser dye [4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(p-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran, DCM]-doped polymer/LC periodic grating was formed on the top of a semiconducting laser gain [poly(2-methoxy-5-(2′-ethyl-hexyloxy)-p-phenylenevinylene), MEH-PPV] layer. A dual-wavelength laser emission at 627.8 nm and 606.6 nm was obtained from the two different laser gain media. The working mechanism of the two lasing behaviors and the methods to modulate lasing wavelength positions are elaborated and demonstrated, which shows the potential to extend the applications of organic lasers.
