Abstract

A dual-function rectangular microstrip antenna for compass and WLAN applications is presented. The proposed antenna has different polarizations and radiation patterns at two frequencies. The antenna is circularly polarized and has a broadside radiation pattern at 1.268 GHz. An omnidirectional radiation pattern is achieved at 2.44 GHz. The lower operating band of the antenna is caused by the TM 10 and TM 01 modes, and the upper one is due to the TM20 and TM02 modes. HFSS simulation is presented to verify the design, and it shows that the proposed antenna is suitable for both compass and WLAN applications.
