Abstract
In order to meet the requirements of broadband multimode satellite communication systems, a dual polarized broadband wide-angle scanning phased array antenna with a low-profile is proposed based on the dielectric-loaded planar dipole antenna. A dielectric substrate with in-phase reflection is employed in the proposed antenna element, which contributes to the low profile and wide beam-width. The profile size is only 0.154λ <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf> and the half-power beam-width of the H-plane is broader than 100°. A 6-element broadband wide-angle scanning phased array is designed. The antenna can work at the frequency range from 1.7GHz to 2.4GHz, indicating a relative working bandwidth of 34%. The beam can scan in the range from -60° to 60° with the antenna gain more than 7.4dBi in the whole frequency range. The antenna has good characteristics of dual polarization, low profile, broadband and wide-angle scanning, which can meet the needs of high-performance phased array antennas for various system platforms.
