Abstract

The phenothiazine and hydroxy-naphthyl substituted hydrazide based receptor PHN with dual detecting sites to monitor the Pb2+ ions and reversibly HS− ions was designed and well characterized. Both the receptor PHN and PHN + Pb2+ ensemble show excellent photo physical properties like superior selectivity and greater sensitivity. In addition, the receptor PHN and PHN + Pb2+ ensemble detects and quantifies both the Pb2+ ions and HS− ions even in its nanomolar concentration. The pH test also proves that the receptor PHN and PHN + Pb2+ ensemble acts as a suitable tool for biological applications with the apt physiological pH range of 4–11. The application on real samples was also done to prove the practical utility of the receptor PHN and PHN + Pb2+ ensemble.
