Abstract

Standard wet EEG electrodes can cause skin irritation and dry over time. Though dry EEG metal electrodes were recently introduced their weight and flexibility made them inappropriate for wearable purposes. In this work, we have introduced a textile-based electrode (textrode) from a PEDOT:PSS/PDMS-coated cotton fabric with 287.5 Ω/sq surface resistance for brain activity monitoring. A skin-to-electrode impedance good enough to collect brain waves and EEG signals comparable to commercial dry electrodes was obtained. This verifies that the textile-based dry electrode could potentially replace the gelled and metal disc standard biopotential electrodes and avoid associated problems, especially for prolonged monitoring.
