Abstract

In this paper, a dielectric resonator (DR) based magnetic dipole Yagi antenna is proposed. The dominate $\text{TE}_{11\delta}$ mode of the rectangular DR is used as a magnetic dipole and can be differentially fed by the coplanar strip line (CPS) for Yagi antenna design. Thanks for the DR employment, the proposed antenna owns several advantages such as compact size and high gain as compared with the traditional metal dipole counterparts. Furthermore, the 3-D dimensions of the DR can be used to optimize the bandwidth and gain of the antenna, and can also be adjusted to cater for the given area in the practical applications, showing the flexibility of the proposed design. Moreover, both strips and DRs can be used as directors and the proposed four elements Yagi antenna using DR directors has high gain, reaching 10 dBi.
