Abstract

Because of the proximity of the anterior rectal wall to the prostate, rectal toxicity is a potential complication of radiation therapy for prostatic carcinoma. We evaluated the dosimetric impact due to use of a bioabsorbable polyethylene glycol gel to increase the separation between the prostate and rectum in prostate cancer patients undergoing high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy ± intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
