Abstract

A novel domain decomposition semianalytical finite element method is proposed for electromagnetic simulations in layered structures and stratified media. A layered structure is decomposed into several subdomains. Conventional finite elements are employed for subdomains with nonuniform material or structural distributions, and a recently developed semianalytical finite element scheme is applied to subdomains uniform in the longitudinal direction. Domain decomposition is used to combine discretized subdomains together, allowing nonconforming meshes on interfaces between adjacent subdomains. Numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed method is highly flexible and efficient in modeling layered structures with local inhomogeneities.
