Abstract

Compared to traditional planar arrays, coprime planar arrays have more precise direction finding precision and higher degrees of freedom. As there is little research on DOA tracking of arbitrary dynamic targets in coprime arrays, a DOA tracking algorithm based on Projection Approximation Subspace Tracking (PAST) for coprime planar array is proposed. It can achieve the real-time tracking of arbitrary dynamic target's two-dimensional arrival angle. The computational complexity of the proposed algorithm is much lower than conventional Esprit algorithm because it does not need to construct the autocorrelation matrix and perform eigenvalue decomposition, as well as the online tracking feature of the proposed algorithm ensures the real-time tracking performance. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the algorithm on DOA tracking and show that the proposed algorithm has better performance on DOA estimation than traditional uniform planar array.
