Abstract
This work has a proposal to weave a problematization on the concept of patriarchal family, used by Gilberto Freyre in Casa-grande and Senzala and that has enormous relevance on his theory of formation of the Brazilian people. In this sense, we understand that this position is homogeneous, reductionist and can not be able to incorporate all household dynamics and family formations throughout the history of Brazil. In the face of this ideal and illusory model - in the sense of totality - we propose to confront it with the haunting narratives of the municipality of Caldas by virtue of showing family arrangements that extrapolate this discursive mold of a dominant class. Therefore, we focus on the methodology of oral history as a way to obtain significant ethnographic data about the local memory that crosses this theme, present in the Brazilian mentality and that in contemporary times has been emphasizing the discourses of the current Brazilian government.
