Abstract

Background: Eighty one percent of patients diagnosed with breast cancer in the United Kingdom undergo surgery to remove the tumour as part of their primary cancer treatment. According to the Department of Health Information Governance Toolkit Requirement 505, the minimum required attainment percentages for clinical coding of primary and secondary procedures are 90% and 80% respectively. The aim of the study was to assess the accuracy of clinical coding in the Breast Surgery as per current practice in the United Kingdom.
