Abstract

The main characteristics common to automation problems such as office automation and factory automation are eventdriven nature, parallelism and asynchronism. This paper presents a distributed problem solving approach to control asynchronous and concurrent processes. The formalism is based on a parallel object oriented model. This model is implemented on a distributed production system called Po-PS. As an example, a monitoring system of journal editing processes is modeled on Po-PS to demonstrate how automation systems are modelled and specified.
