Abstract

In this paper, we provide a concise overview on the principle of General Covariance, one of the fundamental cornerstones of Einstein’s General Relativity. We retrace all the steps that led to the final settlement of a generally covariant theory of gravitation, dwelling specifically on the significance of the well-known “hole argument”. In addition, we discuss about the importance of General Covariance in connection with some recent claims in literature revolving around particle physics. In particular, we summarize the results associated with the decay of accelerated protons.
