Abstract

A modal interferometric fiber-optic displacement sensor based on the balloon-like structure is investigated experimentally. When the bending radius of the balloon-like structure is reduced to 3.0 mm, the displacement sensitivity could reach up to 71.49 nm/mm. Moreover, the evolution process of the transmission spectra in a wide dynamic displacement range exceeding 22 mm is analyzed, which can provide guiding significance for sensor designing. The proposed displacement sensor is extremely low-cost, robust, and compact.
