Abstract

It is pointed out that the second Born amplitude, which dominates in 1s-1s electron capture at high collision velocity, upsilon , obeys to order (1/ upsilon ) a dispersion relation in the square of the momentum transfer, lambda . Consequently contributions to the Thomas peak from off-energy-shell (virtual) intermediate states may be expressed as an integral over the on-shell (real) intermediate state contributions, and vice versa.
