Abstract

On grounds of the poor level of agreement between the experimental and calculated LEED intensities from W(100)1×1, this surface was reinvestigated. Through the temperature of measurement was chosen to be 450 K in order to avoid an early stage of reconstruction, relatively poor R-factors resulted again. However, assuming disorder in the top layer caused by statistical atomic in-plane displacements, improved agreement. Intensity calculations for surface disorder were realised using the new method of “tensor LEED”.
