NELSON THE AUTHOR: is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati as a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He is a registered engineer in the District of Columbia and a member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers and the Electrochemistry Society. After serving three years in the Navy during World War II, he worked at the Naval Research Laboratory until 1956. His work there consisted of research and development on cathodic protection of ships. Projects included design of systems for reserve and active ships, current distribution studies, and design of anodes. Since 1956 he has worked as a corrosion engineer for the Mobil Oil Co., Inc.
