Abstract

A prototype, direct nozzle injection (DNI) spray boom was designed, constructed, and tested. The DNI design developed for this study consisted of 10 spray nozzles on a conventional boom, with simulated chemical injected immediately upstream of each nozzle through small metering orifices. A variable differential pressure across the metering orifices was used to establish varying spray nozzle discharge concentrations. The uniformity of the resulting spray was evaluated on a nozzle-to-nozzle basis (to gauge overall boom performance) and across an individual nozzles spray pattern (to gauge mixing characteristics).
