Abstract

Many acoustic applications adopt the common-acoustical-pole and zero model while only the common acoustical poles (CAP) are needed. This paper proposes a direct method to estimate CAP solely. An approach to determine the orders of poles and zeros based on likelihood function and corrected Akaike information criterion is also given. Simulation results reveal that the estimated poles agree well with the theoretical ones. Besides, the proposed method is further evaluated with vast measured room impulse responses (RIRs) and the results show that the proposed method can accurately extract the common features of several measured RIRs. Furthermore, the result of the Monte Carlo simulation suggests that the proposed method has strong robustness against RIRs variations, and proves that the accuracy of the proposed method in estimating common poles is not a coincidence caused by special selection of measurement positions, but an inherent property.
