Abstract
Damage evidence after the Chi‐Chi earthquake highlighted the im‐portance of performance‐based earthquake engineering (PBEE), which stresses the inelastic behavior of structural systems under severe earthquake ground motions. In this paper, a direct displacement‐based seismic design procedure is implemented and demonstrated through an example to fulfill multiple performance objectives in practical design.
