Abstract

The technique of crossed ballistic beams of excitations is used to investigate the scattering of high energy phonons and rotons from rotons.A direct comparison of the cross-sections for these processes, using the same scattering rotons, is possible.The cross-section for phonon-roton scattering is found to be 0.6 times that of roton-roton scattering for rotons near the minimum.This is in excellent agreement with measurements made on thermal populations.
