Abstract

A dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) was fabricated using a new β-diketonato ruthenium(II) sensitizer with a broad absorption range and a high molar extinction coefficient of 11.3×103 M-1 cm-1 at 584 nm. Efficient sensitization of nanocrystalline TiO2 film was observed across the whole visible range and into the near-IR region as far as 1000 nm. The incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE) spectrum was consistent with the absorption spectrum and resulted in a high short-circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) of 19 mA cm-2.
