Abstract

A simple dihydrazone based bis Schiff base receptor L has been presented for the first time for colorimetric selective detection of Cu2+ ion in methanol-H2O (1:1 v/v, pH = 7.4 in HEPES buffer) with detection limit value 5.3 × 10−7 M. The binding stoichiometry was obtained as 1:1 from job’s plot analysis, 1H NMR and ESI-MS spectra with the association constant value 1.3 × 104 M−1. The chemosensor L can be applied for the recovery of contaminated water samples and also successfully used to detect Cu2+ ion using a test kit coated with L.
