Abstract

This letter discusses an optocoupler based variable resistor circuit. The circuit has digital inputs and the output is a variable resistance with a resolution (unit step size) of 1 Ω. The circuit is easy to assemble especially for microsystems and low cost. Attractive features include variable resistance range scalability, galvanic isolation and digital logic based input.
