Abstract

Summary The contractile reactivity to sympathetic agonists of two different regions of the rat uterus: mesometrial (M) and antimesometrial or lines uteri (LU), was studied. The inhibitory effects of the adrenergic agonists on the spontaneous as well as on the oxytocin-triggered activity were greater in the M region than in the LU. Beta-adrenoceptor blocking agents abolished the different sensitivity towards the adrenergic agonists between both zones. The results suggest that in the M region there is a higher population of beta adrenoceptors or an augmented affinity of the agonist for them than in the LU.
