Abstract

The prevalance of child abuse in Jordan is not known, and the criteria of nonaccidental injuries in Jordanian children are not well defined. Our experience in the pediatrie as well as the psychiatric clinics suggests that the problem of child abuse is not rare. The issue of child abuse in Jordan is a sensitive one, in view of the sequelae of misdiagnosis and absence of clear policy regarding the assessment and management of abused children and their parents. This is the first report of child abuse of Jordanian children who manifested clinical and radiological features of the Battered Baby Syndrome. Earlier identification and intervention could have prevented the serious sequelae in these two cases. A higher index of suspicion for the possibility of child abuse (nonaccidental injuries) among Jordanian children with injuries is warranted.
