Abstract
A new electromagnetic device to measure the electrical losses in stator lamination stacks, along with its associated test procedure, is presented. This procedure provides the ability to distinguish between stators made of different types of materials and can be employed to evaluate finished stator stacks prior to motor assembly. The design and simulation - using both ordinary differential equation solvers in the preliminary phase and detailed finite-element analyses following that - of the aforementioned device are documented, along with experimental data supporting our conclusions.
