Abstract

The soil deformation modulus ( K) is an important term in describing and defining the mechanical properties of soil for traction prediction purposes. Values of K determined in the field give results that account for soil surface effects and other field conditions. This paper describes a new device for in situ measurement of K values, the single wheel tester (SWT). The technique for using the SWT in the field and the preliminary results obtained are discussed.
