Abstract

Childhood sexual violence is a widespread and deeply impactful issue affecting millions of individuals worldwide, with children, and especially girls, most often victims. This article provides an in-depth exploration of the intricate dynamics inherent to childhood sexual violence trauma, employing a multifaceted approach that encompasses psychopathological, psychoanalytic, and systemic perspectives. It discerns the critical distinction between childhood sexuality and the grave repercussions of sexual violence experienced during formative years. The article sheds light on the profound and enduring consequences of such violence, particularly emphasising the need for proactive prevention strategies. Through an amalgamation of extensive research findings and insights from experts in the field, this article underscores the pivotal role played by mental health professionals and society as a whole in addressing this pervasive and distressing public health issue. It calls for a comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to childhood sexual violence and the importance of early detection and intervention to mitigate its adverse effects on survivors.
