Abstract

In this paper, a 6 kV/1000 kW motor drive system is presented. The system mainly includes the 24 pulse rectifier, the di/dt current suppression circuit and the three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) Inverter equipped with the series connected integrated gate commutated thyristor (IGCT). The behavior of the RC-snubber of series connected IGCTs is analyzed. Furthermore, a new circuit implementation of a multilevel sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) for three-level NPC inverter is presented. The control IC is realized with a filed programmable gate array (FPGA) and a digital signal processor (DSP). This circuit structure can provide an effective, flexible, and safe solution for high-power inverts. Some simulation and experimental results have been presented and discussed in this paper.
