Abstract

This paper presents the effects of Defected Ground Structure (DGS) on rectangular microstrip patch antenna. The antenna was designed by using FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.7, thickness of 1.6 mm, and tangent loss of 0.019. The antenna was analysed at 2.4 GHz in term of DGS effectiveness to the proposed rectangular patch antenna system for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) applications. The result shows size reduction of 65 % improvement compare without DGS implementation. Computer Simulation Technology (CST 2015) software was used during the analysis and all result were tabulated and arrange in a form of graph to see the relevancy of the proposed structure.
