Abstract

In this research and according to the structural characteristics of rock slopes containing weak surfaces, a model of roadbed slope containing weak surfaces is developed, and then a design method based on the limiting equilibrium is established. The optimum stable excavation angle of the slope containing weak surfaces can be calculated with the method. The method is used in a road engineering practice, and the sensibility relations of the factors that influence the stable excavation angle of the rock slopes are analyzed and an orthogonal test scheme is determined, based on sensitivity analysis as well as on the reasonable span of the stable excavating angle. Lastly, efficiency and practicality of the method as a convenient way to calculate the stable excavating angle is proved through analysis of examples of road engineering.
