Abstract

A graphical design of a double dispersion system using two edge focussing magnets is presented. A mass-energy product of 80 with a momentum resolution of 10 4 is achieved with an acceptance solid angle of 3 msterad or greater. The magnetic field is uniform and restricted to values less than 15 kG in the median plane of the pole gap. Two deflections are used with an intermediate image so very high rejection of unwanted particles is possible. Both intermediate and final focal planes are suited for installation of position sensitive detectors, i.e. solid state or spark counters.
