Abstract

Abstract The design and construction of a two compartment plant growth chamber for metal uptake studies is described. In one compartment the air is pre‐filtered through a high efficiency glass fibre filter achieving mean particle lead concentrations of <0.1 ng m‐3, whilst the other compartment is ventilated with unfiltered ambient air. Plants may be grown in either soil or nutrient culture solution and the root uptake and foliar deposition/absorption pathways of lead uptake separately quantified.
